Maui High has embraced the concept of smaller learning communities as a model to address the varied needs of a diverse student body.
Some of the strategies and structures implemented include teams in grades 9 and 10, open enrollment for Advanced Placement, thematic academies, Advancement Via Individual Determination and schoolwide differentiated instruction. The school has also created content mastery labs and a Newcomers Center to assist students and families who need additional support.
Maui High maintains a diverse curriculum focused on preparing students for success in college or careers. In addition to the courses required for graduation, the school offers a wide array of classes serving varied career, technical and artistic interests, as well as support programs to ensure student success and Advanced Placement courses in 15 subjects.
