About this school

Makawao Elementary believes active parental support, from volunteering in the classroom to providing campus improvements, is integral to the school’s culture.

Staff stability fosters consistency and allows the school to focus on long term goals. For teachers new to Makawao Elementary, a mentoring team provides support through orientation meetings and coaching sessions. Makawao Elementary has an active Parent Teacher Association and School Community Council.

The school has participated in the Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Program, which provides students a weekly sampling of locally grown fruits and vegetables. Educators participate in data teams to track and analyze student progress and drive instructional practices. Along with data, they also conduct formative assessments in both math and language arts for Grades K-5 to help guide their daily instruction.
