About this school

As a Title I school, Kahului Elementary implements a comprehensive program for standards-based teaching and learning.

School initiatives include block scheduling for reading, writing and math; inclusion practices; consistent aligned curriculum in core academics; weekly constructed responses in reading and math; and a monthly benchmark assessment on standards proficiency for reading and math in grades 2-5.

Classroom instruction reflects best practices such as cooperative groups, hands-on manipulatives and differentiation.

The School Community Council consists of six members including two parents, one community member, one teacher, one employee and an administrator. Two non-voting student representatives elected by students also serve on the council.

A Comprehensive Student Support System is implemented to address customized supports to ensure academic success for all students. Students may access supplemental educational assistance through the English language learner Lumi Kela Lab, the EXCEL center and extended year programs.
