The Department offers 20 interscholastic sports each school year — everything from air riflery to wrestling. Studies suggest a strong correlation between participating in athletics and academic success. Students participating in extracurricular activities must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average, and be passing in courses required for graduation.

Interscholastic Athletics

Teams representing public schools participate as part of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association and compete in various leagues by island: the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, Kauai Interscholastic Federation, Maui Interscholastic League and the Oahu Interscholastic Association.
